Fun Fall Activities

By Ann Martin

The end of the summer season always brings with it, slightly cooler weather and many reasons to get outside and enjoy nature. There are so many great ways to spend some quality time with family and friends during the fall season. Here are some wonderful autumn activities to get you in the mood to enjoy the beauty of autumn.

Visit an Orchard

Check out your community and see if there maybe a local orchard or farm nearby! Many orchards or farms tend to have fall activities planned for the entire family to enjoy. Depending when you visit, you may be even able to pick some fresh produce, like those delicious and crisp apples and even pumpkins, which may be available. Sometimes local farms or orchards plan a fall festival during certain weekends throughout the months of September and October. During these festivals, hay mazes may be set up, jack o' lantern displays can be seen, hayrides are given, and even face painting may be available for the little ones. Some farms or orchards even have a small petting zoo for everyone to enjoy. But the best part of visiting a local farm or orchard, especially during the fall season are the homemade treats that available to sink your teeth into. Homemade ice cream, freshly baked cider donuts, and piping hot apple pie are all often available for visitors to sample. If it looks like it will be another beautiful fall weekend, check out your local orchard and get outdoors!

Hike Through Your Local State Park

In every state, there are numerous local parks for the community to enjoy. Many of these parks have wide open fields for play, and others have special features such as streams, woods and even hiking trails. Go to your state's homepage and conduct a search for state parks. Typically each state park will list what it offers for its visitors. Some trails may be more geared for more experienced hikers, while others are kid friendly. Sometimes a game called frisbee golf is set up in the woods of a park. Give it a try, it actually is a very fun game to play! It is important to plan ahead in order to fully enjoy each park and what it has to offer. Above all else, pack a lunch so everyone can enjoy a fall picnic outdoors!

See The Animals

Summer tends to be a popular time of year to visit the zoo, mainly because children are not in school and parents are able to take vacation from work. However, visiting your local zoo during the fall season is a great way to see the animals and experience the zoo without the crowds. It makes for a perfect fall outing for the entire family and you can get an up close and personal look at the animals and any exhibits that may be on display. Sometimes depending on when you visit in the fall, discounted tickets may be available making your visit an even better deal.
